ARRIVE
DAYS 1-10
“This very moment is the perfect teacher, and, lucky for us, it’s with us wherever we are.”
— Pema Chödrön, When Things Fall Apart: Heart Advice for Difficult Times
ARRIVE: Dive Deeper in Days 1-10
LISTEN.
Our first 10 days are all about settling into this moment in our lives, what our practice allows us to notice, and simply being here together.
I couldn’t NOT post this conversation, originally recorded for the last time I did 40 Early Mornings beginning on the Winter Solstice: as 2019 turned into 2020.
I’ll just pause and let you remember your own life and self 2.5 years ago. Astonishing, right?
Have a listen to our first audio conversation in the same way you might a podcast — chopping vegetables in the evening, driving somewhere, taking a walk — however you’d love to listen. Hopefully something you hear will linger and you can take it with you into the rest of these 10 days.
REFLECT.
This workbook is a complement to the conversation above, our first 10 days of practice, and our first group live session. Filled with journaling prompts (or perhaps just quiet reflections — questions you might take with you on a walk, as I like to say). There’s no right or wrong answers, all just information. Set aside a quiet hour or so for this or add a question or two to your daily practice time.
CONNECT.
Don’t forget to schedule your 1:1 session with me — I’ve got a few openings posted this week (and beyond). Take a look & let’s get something on the books. This 45-minute 1:1 video call will help us dive deeper into how 40 EM can support YOU in this moment. It’s one of my favorite pieces of this program. Can’t wait to chat with you.
Here’s the pre 1:1 call questionnaire for you to submit before we meet. I CANNOT WAIT!
p.s. Don’t see a time on the schedule that works for you this week - don’t worry, there will be more 1:1s in upcoming weeks!
6.24.22 Live Group Practice Recording - In case you missed it!
“In out of the way places of the heart,
Where your thoughts never think to wander,
This beginning has been quietly forming,
Waiting until you were ready to emerge.”
— John O’Donohue, “For a New Beginning”
from To Bless the Space Between Us
“The soul is like a wild animal—tough, resilient, savvy, self-sufficient, and yet exceedingly shy. If we want to see a wild animal, the last thing we should do is to go crashing through the woods, shouting for the creature to come out. But if we are willing to walk quietly into the woods and sit silently for an hour or two at the base of a tree, the creature we are waiting for may well emerge, and out of the corner of an eye we will catch a glimpse of the precious wildness we seek.”
— PARKER PALMER, LEt Your Life Speak: Listening for the voice of vocation
“Meditation is a transformative process, rather than a magic makeover in which we doggedly aim to change something about ourselves. The more we practice, the more we open, and the more we develop courage in our life. In meditation you never really feel like you ‘did it’ or that you’ve ‘arrived.’ You feel that you just relaxed enough to experience what’s always been within you. Sometimes I call this transformative process ‘grace.’.”
— PEMA CHÖdröN, How to meditate: A practical guide to Making Friends With Your mind
I, ________, Hereby commit to 40 days of showing up for myself, my work, my life in my daily practice because I believe:
“A new moon teaches gradualness and deliberation and
how one gives birth to oneself slowly.
patience with small details makes perfect a large work, like the universe. what nine months of attention
does for an embryo
forty early mornings
will do for your gradually growing wholeness.”
— Rumi
